Universal Provision
What is 'Universal Provision'?
Universal Provision is the term used to describe the starting point for all forms of additional support at the Whiteoak Academies and across our Trust, The Lighthouse Schools Partnership. It involves delivering high-quality teaching accessible to everyone, focussing on inclusive teaching and learning methods that benefit all children and are crucial for those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). This high quality adaptive teaching incorporates strategies and resources, alongside curriculum and environmental adjustments, that our teachers and teaching assistants can use to eliminate barriers to learning and for our children to be able to access their learning independently and successfully.
‘High quality teaching that is differentiated and personalised will meet the individual needs of the majority of children and young people… Special educational provision is underpinned by high quality teaching and is compromised by anything less.’

At The Whiteoak Academies our Universal Provision offer is very fluid and informal, taking advantage of our teachers’ skills and expertise. Teachers are expected to make such changes to their practice without input from Senior Leaders or the SENCO, and may not necessarily inform parents when such accommodations are made.
Below we share our Universal Provision offer, such as creating dyslexia-friendly environments, supporting communication, and adapting to the sensory and physical requirements of pupils. This offer has been informed and developed through consideration of relevant and up-to-date research, referenced below, alongside CPD and training delivered through our Trust SEND Networks.
